DETROIT – Butzel Long Chairman Philip Kessler has been appointed National Membership Chairman of the United States Supreme Court Historical Society for a one-year term that began July 1.

In addition, Kessler becomes an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee of the Society�??s Board of Trustees. Most recently, Mr. Kessler was the Michigan Membership Chair of the Society.

He has had significant experience in anti-trust litigation, audit malpractice, bankruptcy litigation, contract litigation, corporate control contests, distributorship litigation, false advertising claims, health care and pharmaceutical counseling and litigation; intellectual property litigation (including copyright, trademark, trade secrets and unfair competition and patent infringement claims), intra-corporate and partnership disputes, merger and acquisition related litigation, probate and trust litigation and securities fraud claims.

He has practiced before the United States Supreme Court and has had extensive experience in federal and state courts including the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Michigan Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan and the Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Washtenaw County Circuit Courts.

Kessler is a 1972 graduate of the School of Law of the University of California at Berkeley and a 1969 graduate of The University of Michigan (A.B., with distinction). He is a resident of Franklin.
