SALINE – Creative services and marketing company DesignHub has developed a new website for the Multi-institutional Study of Leadership, a project of the National Clearinghouse for Leadership Programs and Center for Student Studies.

MSL is an annual national survey of leadership development among college students. It explores the role of higher education in developing leadership capacities with a special focus on environmental conditions that foster leadership development.

The first iteration of MSL, administered in Spring 2006, surveyed over 60,000 students from 52 U.S. colleges and universities. More than 100 institutions of higher education from across North America – including Canada and Mexico – are participating in the 2009 study. Enrollment is now open for the 2010 MSL.

A special feature of the new MSL website: Upon opening the home page, visitors are invited to select one of three distinct views of the site, based on whether they are institutional researchers, leadership educators, or students and parents. Content within each view is customized for the specific audience.

The site details the history, purpose, and design of MSL, profiles the study’s research team, and describes benefits of enrollment. Site visitors can also see the timeline for the 2010 MSL, review pricing, get the latest news on the study, and enroll online.

DesignHub worked with NCLP and CSS to plan the new MSL website’s content, functionality, and organization. DesignHub then designed the graphical user interface, programmed page templates for different presentations of content, populated pages with content provided by the MSL team, and tested the site within leading web browsers.

Just before the site’s launch, DesignHub trained members of the MSL team to make day-to-day updates to the sign using Adobe Dreamweaver software as the content management system.

Concurrently with the website development, DesignHub helped the MSL team design and produce a full-color, eight-panel, pocket-sized brochure for distribution to prospective MSL participants by mail and at academic conferences.

NCLP supports leadership development in college students by serving as a central source of professional development for leadership educators. NCLP accomplishes this through the development of cutting-edge resources, information sharing, and symposia. NCLP also works to connect leadership educators to one another and support those developing leadership programs in their communities. NCLP is supported and located in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland.
