DETROIT – The Detroit Science Center is hosting NanoDays activities, starting April 6, as part of the first nationwide week of events dedicated to showcase what’s great about science and science careers in nanotechnology.

Hands-on activities include Ferro fluid, Liquid Crystal, Solutions, Measurement, Forces and Reactions, and are provided by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE) Network, a national community of researchers and informal science educators dedicated to fostering public awareness, engagement, and understanding of nanoscale science, engineering and technology.

Nanoscale science, engineering and technology deal with objects having dimensions in nanometers. When materials are this tiny, they can have new exciting properties that we don’t see in our everyday, macro-scale world. Nanoparticles of familiar materials look and behave in unfamiliar ways. Nano applications in consumer products include stain-resistant clothing, sunscreen, computer chips with nanoscale-length transistors, nanoparticles in food packaging and refrigerators to keep food fresher longer, and nanosized dietary supplements to help vitamins and minerals be absorbed better.

When: Now through April 6, 2008 during regular museum hours

.

Where: Detroit Science Center,
