LANSING ? Dewpoint has signed a lease with the Eyde Company to move into the iconic Knapp?s Centre in the heart of downtown Lansing, leaving its former headquarters on the southeast side of town.
?This move allows Dewpoint to provide a world-class facility for our employees and customers,? explained Dewpoint president and chief operations officer Ken Theis. ?The ability to be much closer and more accessible to many of our employees and customers will be invaluable, and will help to support our continued growth.?
Over the last 18 months, Dewpoint has experienced exponential growth, with an approximate 155 percent increase in staff since 2012. The new offices will serve both resident office staff as well as a large number of resources deployed at large, with ad hoc collaboration and shared work spaces available.
The Knapp?s Centre started out as the building for the J.W. Knapp?s Department Store. The Knapp?s Department store closed its doors in 1980. In 1982, the building was purchased by the Eyde Company and converted to office space for several tenant. Today, it is being transformed into a mixed-use development with retail and restaurants slated for the first floor, with Class A office space on the upper floors. High-end residential units will be located on the top floor and penthouse floor.
The building is also SERF certified ? A newer alternative to LEED certification, SERF uses a dynamic scoring system with 22 sustainability categories, such as lighting, HVAC, air quality, recycling and green cleaning, which use well-known standards like ASHRAE and USDA and to set guidelines for performance. “Dynamic” means that it is percentage based, so scoring high in some categories can offset others that are too difficult or expensive for the project to achieve. Depending on the project, it may be scored based on either a performance or prescriptive path.
