TROY – New media company Elemental has launched Deep Canvas, an online social network that brings together the various elements of Metro Detroit’s creative class. Based loosely on the work of social scientist Dr. Richard Florida, the creative class are the arts & knowledge workers who are considered crucial to Michigan’s post-industrial economic development.

??We developed Deep Canvas as an interactive, grass-roots effort towards fostering our region’s creative class and getting them talking with one another, sharing ideas, their work and their vision for Detroit,” said Carl Winans, Elemental’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We’ve started what we hope will be a catalyst and we’re committed to supporting and growing it, but ultimately where this goes is up to the members, which is exciting because the possibilities are endless.”

Deep Canvas offers much of the functionality of social networks such as Facebook or LinkedIn. Members can design their own personal page and post images, videos, music, blogs, links, and upcoming events related to their profession. This information can be shared with all members on Deep Canvas, or just a select few. Other features include the ability to create or join groups of professionals that share your interests, and exchange insights, ideas, content, industry knowledge and helpful resources within forums. Users can even post job openings or their own resume for potential employment in the creative field.

Elemental helps clients navigate the new media environment; clients include Compuware, Jack Morton Worldwide, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Danialle Karmanos’ Work It Out, Deloitte & Touche, and numerous local, regional, and national companies.
