GROSSE POINT PARK – Lightmob LLC, a technology startup, has announced the availability of the 2nd generation of its patented data recovery software, GEEPS. Gen II improves upon the original by including built in storage on the same USB Flash drive that delivers the software.

The all-in-one unit comes in the original two gigabyte format and a 32 gigabyte unit. Each device has a built in operating system, based on Linux that works on any computer built since 1998 by plugging into the flash drive before powering the computer on. Once booted, the program provides easy drag and drop recovery of all data on a computer, regardless of whether the computer operates on Windows or not.

?With the increasing prevalence of malware rendering older computers inoperable, GEEPS provides an easy way to rescue data trapped on infested machines,? said Founder and President Hans Erickson. ?GEEPS also erases the data on a computer once rescued, aiding the user in protecting their identity when they dispose of the computer.?

GEEPS, which began sales in January 2013, is now carried by many Internet electronics resellers, as well as on the company website (geeps.us.) Lightmob won a GLEQ Technology Innovation award in July 2013. The company is in active discussions with several electronics retailers to distribute GEEPS in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Created after his mother-in-law had Windows die on a laptop, Erickson recalls: ?After using my Linux utility to move her data to an external drive, I realized that with an easy to use interface this would be the easiest way for anyone to recover their data. Adding the erase data feature to protect digital identity was the logical next step.?

Besides flash drive models, GEEPS software is also available on CD-ROM, which allows it to start computers unable to use USB keyboards. The CD-ROM version does not include storage. With all GEEPS models, any external storage drive can be used to copy data. The CD-ROM version sells for just $19.95. The USB drive models starts at $29.95.

GEEPS is easy enough to use that only a mouse is needed to perform all tasks, and extensive help is available in the software and on the website to guide non-techie users in recovering their data.
