LANSING – Liquid Web Inc., the largest Web hosting company in Michigan with more than 20,000 clients in more than 120 countries, Wednesday opened its new cloud computing data center and world headquarters, boosting the company’s hosting capabilities to 35,000 servers at three data centers.

The $80-million, 90,000-square-foot facility in southwest Lansing will employ 600 highly skilled workers to support Liquid Web?s move into the “cloud hosting” computer market. Founded in 1997 and privately held, Liquid Web currently has 10,000 computer servers and 145 highly skilled employees in two data centers in the Lansing area. The company posted $20.3 million in revenues in 2008 and has been on Inc. Magazine’s list of the nation’s top 5,000 fastest growing companies in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (ranking 889 this year).

Liquid Web owner Matt Hill said the new data center will enhance the company’s already superior customer service capabilities and will support a significant new cloud hosting product to be unveiled by the company in the coming months. It will be Liquid Web?s first in-house developed product.

“Cloud hosting is a cost-effective, secure server solution for literally thousands of companies and organizations small to large that need to deploy a new server or need to increase the capacity of their current servers,” Hill said. “Our new data center and headquarters will support our new cloud hosting product, which will introduce a new level of ease of use and flexibility to the marketplace.”

Hill also said the success and continued growth of Liquid Web is an important indicator of Michigan?s economic future.

“We are proud and honored to be growing a high-tech company in Lansing, Michigan that is creating jobs for highly skilled and educated people,” Hill said. “Michigan’s future prosperity depends on the success of these types of companies.”

Liquid Web provides Web hosting and engineering services to clients in more than 120 countries across the world, including the UK, India, Australia, Brazil and China. Web hosting companies such as Liquid Web provide clients with space on a server they own or lease to handle traffic and interactions on a Web site, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center.

Liquid Web has established a strong market reputation for superior customer service, which the company calls Heroic Support. Liquid Web guarantees customer tickets will be answered within 30 minutes any time of the day or night. In many instances, a client will not even notice a problem has occurred and been remedied because Liquid Web engineers proactively monitor its servers and corrects any issues that are identified.

“What heroic support means is our team of highly trained and educated engineers and customer service specialists are available on site at each data center 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Hill said.

“The more than 140 Heroic Support engineers work just feet away from the servers, allowing them to monitor and correct any issue that is identified with our clients, often before they even notice.”

In the coming weeks, Liquid Web will officially announce its new cloud hosting product, which will compete in a market with some of the largest computer, software and Internet companies in the world. The product is currently in private beta testing and is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews.
