WARREN ? Lawrence Technological University’s eighth annual Thanksgiving RoboParade Nov. 23 will feature entries from middle and high schools students from Michigan, Ohio, Mexico and Canada, as well as robotics arts projects from students at Lawrence Tech, and the University of Michigan.
RoboParade, an indoor demonstration of autonomous robots, and the inaugural Global Robotics Art Festival will be held Nov. 23 in the Expo Center on the South Campus of Macomb Community College in Warren. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
Global Robotics Art Festival showcases student robotics projects in the visual and performing arts. During the opening ceremonies, the national anthem will be played by robotic musical instruments.
This year?s Thanksgiving RoboParade will feature robot floats constructed and programmed by elementary, middle school, and high school students. Each team?s creativity will be on display as its decorated floats proceed around the parade route. The robot floats are programmed to detect other robots in front of them, to follow the parade line, to display the current speed, and to start and stop without human intervention. Spectators can vote for their favorite robotic float and enter raffle prize drawings.
Teams will bring cans of food to construct mock buildings along the course, which is based on the parade route down Woodward Avenue in Detroit. The cans will be donated to a food bank after the event.
The two events are organized by the Robofest office in LTU?s College of Arts and Sciences. Founded by Professor CJ Chung in 2000, Robofest competitions promote science, technology, engineering, and math ? the STEM subjects ? in fun and dynamic ways.
