ANN ARBOR – Many healthcare organizations have Spanish-speaking staff who could serve as interpreters ? with the proper training. University of Michigan Health Services Interpreter Services offers a course ? Medical Interpreting for Spanish Speakers ? to teach your staff the skills they need to interpret competently.
This course is open to all fully bilingual people who want to communicate with Spanish-speakers in healthcare settings.
The course provides a 60-hour introduction to medical interpreting, focusing on:
? Interpreting skills
? Cultural competency
? Spanish fluency and medical terminology
? Basic medical knowledge
To enroll in the course, students must first pass a 20-minute assessment, conducted via a web meeting.
