NORTHVILLE – Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America will supply a rear-seat entertainment system and new radio system to Mercedes-Benz for its 2012 M-Class and GL-Class vehicles.

The radio is a full navigation system with voice recognition, a hard drive and a DVD player. An optional six-disc DVD changer is available. The interface – which resembles a retro radio dial – is displayed on the radio?s screen. It?s manipulated by haptic (tactile response) controls mounted on the center console, which eliminates fingerprints on the screen and the inherent distractions of a conventional touch screen.

The RSE system, which is independent of the radio system, includes two eight-inch video screens mounted on the back of the front-seat headrests, and a remote DVD player located on the back of the console. Rear-seat passengers can watch and listen to movies via wireless, 2.4-gigahertz headphones while the driver and front-seat passenger listen to the primary radio and use the navigation system. The DVD player?s input jacks are easily accessible and are compatible with video game systems and camcorders.
