DETROIT – NEW announced it has received a $75,000 grant from The Kresge Foundation to support NEW’s BoardConnect, npServ, and ResourceConnect programs in Detroit and the tri-county area.
?We?re excited to work with The Kresge Foundation to help nonprofits in Metropolitan Detroit build stronger boards with the help of our BoardConnect program, leverage technology through npServ, and learn about and implement best practices for their organizations through ResourceConnect,? said Michael Tyson, President and CEO of NEW. ?In this tough economy, our community relies more than ever on the vital services nonprofits provide. We?re thrilled to help them work smarter, cut their costs, and maximize their efficiency and impact.?
NEW?s mission is to help nonprofits succeed by strengthening nonprofit management and offering solutions to issues facing the nonprofit community. Founded in 1993, NEW offers four capacity-building programs to help nonprofits make a difference in the community:

The Kresge Foundation is a $3.1 billion private, national foundation that seeks to influence the quality of life for future generations by creating access and opportunity in underserved communities, improving the health of low-income people, supporting artistic expression, increasing college achievement, assisting in the revitalization of Detroit, and advancing methods for addressing global climate change. The foundation has seven programs: Arts and Culture, Community Development, Detroit, Education, Environment, Health, and Human Services. In 2011, the Board of Trustees approved 346 awards totaling $170 million; $140 million was paid out to grantees over the course of the year.
