ROCHESTER – Robots, accompanied by designers, and teams of students,
will be swarming Oakland University’s campus to participate in the annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition May 30 to June 2.
The competition focuses on four challenges, which evaluate the vehicles�?? design, technology use, and ability to navigate through obstacles.
OU will also have a team participating in the competition. Eight undergraduate and graduate students are using their studies in computer science, electrical engineering, and systems engineering to convert a wheelchair into an unmanned vehicle for the competition.
The IGVC is sponsored by Air Force Research Laboratory, Applied Research Associates, AUVSI, AUVSI Great Lakes Chapter, Department of Defense, General Motors, Hemisphere GPS, Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems, Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise, Microsoft Robotics, Oakland University, Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE Foundation for Science and Technology Education, Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity, United States Military Academy at West Point, and the U.S. Army TARDEC.
