LANSING – The presidents of the University Research Corridor institutions and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. will share a stage in Novi March 21 to map out emerging business and job growth prospects at a business breakfast co-hosted by the URC and WWJ Newsradio 950.
The interactive panel discussion will take place at the Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel, Ballroom B, 21111 Haggerty Road. Networking/registration/continental breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m., with the panel discussion from 8:30 ? 10 a.m.
The discussion features: University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman, MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney, Wayne State University President Allan Gilmour and Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon. Advanced registration is required with a charge of $10 to the general public or free to students or staff with a University ID.
Finney, appointed in January to lead the state?s lead economic development agency, is Governor Rick Snyder?s point man in the effort to reinvent the Michigan economy by helping existing businesses grow, fostering entrepreneurship and attracting new business investment to the state.
The universities, through the URC, an alliance of MSU, U-M and Wayne State, have each made innovation a top priority. The URC was founded in 2006 to leverage the power of Michigan?s research universities to transform, strengthen and diversify the state?s economy. A recent study found that the three universities have a combined impact on the state?s economy of $14.8 billion.
