GRAND RAPIDS ? Verizon sent me both the Galaxy 3 and 4 to test recently and I have to tell you I give both smartphone two thumbs way, way up.
In both models, the screen size was enormous. The number of apps incredible. The 4G LTE capabilities comparable to what I get on my laptop connected to my cable modem. I could stream audio and video virtually real-time, a very big improvement over my clunky Android 3G phone.
But the real test of any smart phone ? it is a phone after all ? is its ability to communicate from anywhere. So I put it to the test in a real world scenario ? a beach party at Hardy Dam in Newaygo County where I never could get any reception previously on any cell or smart phone I used. Most of my friends complained of the same problem. The Hardy Dam dead zone we called it.
Using Verizon?s 4G network, I stood at the top of a sand dune and did live my weekly MITechNews Update Report on the Internet Advisor as heard on WJR 760 AM. I listened to the podcast version of the show afterwards and the audio quality was almost like I was in the studio.
I used the phone again to do another show while visiting my cousins in Boyne City in Northern Michigan. Again, audio quality great and no problems getting my colleagues at the Internet Advisor (Foster Braun and Gary Baker) to hear me now?well then actually.
With the Holidays coming and thoughts of electronic gadgets filling everyone?s heads, I would recommend anyone shopping for a smart phone to check out the Galaxy 4. Now Verizon?s calling plans are a little on the high-priced side, but like that old adage goes, you get what you pay for.
