LANSING – The Small Business Association of Michigan reports that small business owners and their employees, pinched by the recent run-up in gasoline prices, have been signing up for hundreds of SBAM-member-only Speedway cards that provide a 4.5 percent discount on gasoline and other purchases.

??In the current economy, small business owners are looking to pinch every penny they can, especially when it comes to the cost of gasoline,? says SBAM??s director of products & services Sarah Miller. ??They are signing up in droves for these cards because, at current prices, the cards save them 18 cents a gallon.?

The cards are valid for one year as long as the small business owners is a member in good standing with SBAM (cards are renewable annually.) To load money on the card, SBAM members visit any Speedway store and put any amount of money on the card at any frequency. They pay less than face value. (i.e. they get $100 to spend for $95.50 out-of-pocket). Once the card is loaded with money, it can be used at the pump or the cash register just like a regular gift card.
