BATTLE CREEK – The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan, Michigan Soybean Promotion Committee and Michigan Wheat Program are collaborating on a new event for crop farmers in the Great Lakes Region, called the Great Lakes Crop Summit, scheduled for Jan. 22-24, 2014, at FireKeepers Hotel and Casino.
The inaugural summit for crop farmers will feature a program of educational sessions packed with agronomic and business management information, a trade show comprised of leading agricultural companies and the annual business meetings for both the Michigan Corn Growers Association and Michigan Soybean Association.
The event will kick off with a commodity executive panel featuring Jim Palmer of the National Association of Wheat Growers, Rick Tolman from the National Corn Growers Association and John Becherer from the United Soybean Board.

High Management Soybean Systems, by Dr. Seth Naeve, University of Minnesota;
Soybean Planting Dates and Starter Fertilizer, by Dr. Laura Lindsey, Ohio State University;
Staying Ahead of Soybean Diseases, by Dr. Martin Chilvers, Michigan State University, and Dr. Kiersten Wise, Purdue University;
Soybean Variable Rate Seeding, by Missy Bauer, B&M Consulting;
Deciding Factors for Soybean Yields, by Dr. Laura Lindsey, Ohio State University;
Soybean Seed Quality, by Dr. Seth Naeve, University of Minnesota; and
High Oleic Soybeans, by Osborn & Barr, representatives of the United Soybean Board.
In addition to agronomic topics highlighting soybean, corn and wheat production, workshops will be offered on succession planning, recordkeeping systems for farm management, water quality and social media management as well as health and well-being on the farm.
Twelve (12) Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) and ten (10) Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) credits are available for full-conference attendance.
