ANN ARBOR ? It will cost an instate undergraduate student $13,158 in tuition ? the highest in the state – to attend the University of Michigan this fall, 1.6 percent more than a year ago after The University of Michigan’s Board of Regents approved a 2014-15 budget on Thursday.

The increase, university officials said, is less than the increase in inflation and comes after the university’s state funding was increased by some $16.1 million for the upcoming year.

The increase is also far less than the 3.2 percent increase Michigan’s public universities have been urged to hold to as part of the budget agreement.

Non-state undergraduates will see their tuition increase by 3.4 percent to $41,578. And graduate student tuition will increase by 2.4 percent.

Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet on Friday to discuss that school’s budget and tuition rates.
