TROY – Walsh College is hosting a half-day session on fiscal responsibilities for the public sector on December 5 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the Walsh College Novi Campus.

Walsh faculty and government finance experts will discuss their experiences and insights under the state emergency manager laws and municipal bankruptcy, as well as how overlooking various budgetary red-flags by local leaders can have dire consequences. The presenters will discuss resources available to struggling municipalities, as well as critical decisions and strategies recommended for all municipalities and school districts to maintain their fiscal health.

Cathy Square, Emergency Manager, City of Hamtramck

Walsh College Accounting Professor and recently-appointed Detroit Finance Director John Naglick, CPA, CFF

Walsh College alumnus Drew Van de Grift, Esq., State of Michigan, Department of Treasury, Office of Fiscal Responsibility

Walsh College Accounting Professor Maria Gistinger, Ph.D., CPA, Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Brighton Area Schools

Walsh College Accounting Professor Katherine Konon, CPA, CGMA, former Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services at Mt. Clemens Community Schools

Tickets are $50, $25 for Walsh alumni, and $15 for Walsh students. Seating is limited, and registration is required. Continuing education credit is available for individuals with certifications.
