ROYAL OAK – Multiple themes at the North American International Auto Show featured autonomous startups in the basement for the Automobile-D show sponsored by PlanetM, but upstairs where the auto industry was showcasing cars available now, not so much, said Auto Expert David Cole, chairman of AutoHarvest in Ann Arbor.
The other theme was a shortage of skilled labor to design, build and manufacturer advanced vehicles in the years ahead with the Baby Boomers retiring at a record pace, Cole said.
Yet another theme is the vanishing boundaries as automakers reaching out to potential markets well outside their primary sales regions, such as China, which will become a world leader in not only small cars, but also electric.
