EAST LANSING – Managed services provider Trivalent Group, already a major player on the West side of Michigan, added central Michigan to its footprint on Wednesday when President and CEO Larry Andrus announced the acquisition of KI Technology Group. Terms were not announced.

But Andrus said the acquisition of the East Lansing managed services company, with a solid base of customers in greater Lansing, will solidify Trivalent’s statewide leadership in providing managed services and cloud hosting, and streamline customer service for high-profile businesses that rely more than ever on the cloud.

“I was the branch manager for Burroughs in Lansing many years ago,” Andrus said in an interview with MITechNews.Com. “I know Lansing. KI Technology is a nice clean business. It has a good reputation with its customers. And the lady who is president wanted a succession plan over three years. She contacted us. It’s just 70 minutes from our Granville headquarters. Lansing is now part of our statewide footprint.”

Trivalent now employs more than 80 full-time professionals across the state, with offices in Grandville, Battle Creek, Mt. Pleasant, Traverse City and East Lansing. Andrus said the company he founded in 1971 now serves 680 customers, and generates some $21 million annually in sales. The KI Technology piece will add $1 million to $1.5 million in its first full year as part of the Trivalent family, he said.

KI Technology President Linda Lynch said her customers need to compete, grow and innovate and merging her company with Trivalent will give them just what they need.

“Technology companies like ours are critical for job creation, and this acquisition is a win-win for our employees and customers across the mid-Michigan area,” Lynch said.

When asked if Trivalent is seeking acquisitions in Southeast Michigan, Andrus replied: “We’re going to concentrate on making this acquisition successful, but some of our vendor partners have suggested they would enjoy working with us if we were statewide.”

Andrus added: “We provide managed services for the Michigan Supreme Court network for circuit courts in Southeast Michigan already.”

Andrus said Trivalent focuses on three business segments: Healthcare services, commercial distribution, education and government. Manufacturing, however, has been coming on strong, he said.

Last year, Trivalent was honored as a Top 100 Managed Service Provider in the World for the fifth consecutive year by MSPMentor, a leading trade publication. In December, the company, as a founding member of the Michigan Data Center Alliance, successfully advocated for fair tax policy for Michigan’s data center businesses.
