FERNDALE – On M2 (Squared) TechCast Monday April 18, cybersecurity experts Richard Stiennon and Dan Lohrmann will talk about the Panama Papers and how the hackers got them, and the growing threat from ransomeware. Also on the show will be Merit President Joe Sawasky who provide details of Merit’s 50th birthday party in May. Dronelaw.Pro’s Enrico Shaeffer will provide an update on new FAA drone regulations that break the 500-foot barrier.
Lohrmann was recently in a meeting with the FBI Director who said ransomeware – where hackers encrypt your computer data and demand a ransom to unencrypt it – has only just begun. Ransomeware has turned into one of the more lucrative scams on the Internet today and black hats from nation states as well as organized crime are cashing in big time.
Sawasky will provide the history of Merit Network, which began in 1966 by the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University to connect all public universities and nearly 400 other education and non-profit organizations in every corner of the state with advanced high speed fiber optic service. A big golden anniversary party is planned for May 11-12 at the Eagle Crest Hotel in Ypsilanti.
Schaefer will provide a drone law update on the latest legislation pending before Congress. He’ll also provide background on why the Federal Aviation Administration loosened its grip on drone users by creating a pathway that lets them fly their quadcopters closer to people and vehicles than ever before. Keep your eyes on the sky.
M2 TechCast is heard each Monday at 3 pm on the www.podcastdetroit.com network.
