ROYAL OAK – On this edition of M2 TechCast, Sarah Sebaly, Senior Program Manager at The Workforce Intelligence Network, discusses the MI Bright Future program that works to connect students with potential employers to bridge the skills gap.

MI Bright Future works to create a collaborative environment and relationship with all stakeholders of the talent pipeline, from K-12 education partners, community colleges, universities, workforce development, and employers.

She said Michigan is experiencing a perfect storm in its talent base today. Its skilled workforce is retiring. Students are graduating without adequate job skills. Other students have no hands-on work experience at all. In Information Technology alone, there are 17 job openings for every student in Michigan graduating with tech degrees, she said.

So far about 200 employers have signed up to work with MI Bright Future, which can connect them with 300,000 students. What MI Bright Future needs ix far more employers to step up to help the next generation of workers get the right job skills for today’s jobs, Sebaly said.
