ROYAL OAK – OST’s Mike Lomonaco, director of marketing and communications, talks about organizational challenges that the Integrated Solutions Provider is working through on IT projects in a digital transformative world.

OST recently did an insight study across leaders, many current accounts and lines of business in Grand Rapids, Detroit and Minneapolis and discovered some interesting themes. One of the questions asked was what are the top five risks IT organizations are facing today?

The No. 1 risk or concern was customer adoption, Lomonaco said. More specifically, a customer launching a new product and asking the question, ‘how are people using it?’ So the concern becomes the user experience.

Another topic discussed in this podcast interview was trends each of the businesses surveyed are seeing. The answer: Data and more data. Also how is the data used and how to businesses make sense of it, he said. The data all businesses are creating everyday is increasing and businesses are trying to figure out how to manage and make sense of it.

Technology may not be the solution, Lomonaco said. Technology may be part of it, but the real question is are businesses designing systems to work with people? If so, whom?

In Detroit, OST’s growth has been in manufacturing, but also to a lesser degree in the services industry. Companies, he said, are leveraging OST’s human-centered design expertise to identify the new opportunities opening up for them.
