ROYAL OAK – Paul Riser Jr., Managing Director of Tech-Based Entrepreneurship at TechTown in Detroit, talks about his efforts leading TechTown’s LABS Programs. This includes but may not be limited to, incubation and acceleration for TechTown clients, university commercialization  and tech transfer focus, supervision of business development functions, capital identification for clients, including loan funds, angel investors and venture capitalists, pipeline development, such as talent, technologies and partners, as well as funding strategies for industry cluster programming.

He also assists in engagement of professional service providers to offer cost-effective services to TechTown businesses in areas such as accounting, intellectual property, web development, sales and marketing, legal and prototyping.

TechTown helps startups, emerging business and long-time businesses grow and prosper, Riser said. He also highlights the tech talent gap in software development, advanced manufacturing, 3D printing and computer-aided design. Riser said he meets a lot of great talent at TechTown, with nascent businesses that have a mismatch of employers looking for talent and talent looking for great opportunity. He thinks there is a huge opportunity to match talent to those seeking business opportunities, such as WIN, Opportunity Detroit Tech, and Ann Arbor SPARK’s STAR program.
