ROYAL OAK – Mike Casewell, an industrial engineer whose love of coffee and appreciation of the coffee-bar experience was developed while working as a part-time barista in his college days, left his last job as Director of Profit Improvement at Starbucks in Seattle, to create Roasting Plant, which features its patented Javabot technology that can continuously roast beans and brew coffee to order by the cup while still at the peak of freshness.
Roasting Plant has several locations across Michigan, including Detroit, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and now Ann Arbor. Roasting Plant carefully sources the world’s finest beans and can brew any single origin or a customer’s choice of up to four coffees blended, ground and brewed by the cup. Roasting Plant’s just-roasted coffee sets a new standard of freshness, flavor and smoothness for coffee lovers – the ultimate coffee experience.
In other coffee companies, beans are roasted in a central warehouse, often times burned for a consistent flavor, and then shipped and stored for months before they are brewed. But, coffee begins to go stale 7-10 days after roasting.
At the roasting plant, technology enables:
- Supply chain efficiencies – Coffee beans are shipped to stores “green”- before they are roasted. Enabling cost efficiencies in shipping and storing lighter beans.
- Maximum Freshness – Coffee is then roasted on premise, as needed by the Java bot ensuring that it is consumed within days for maximum freshness.
- Consistency – The Javabot can be programed with specific blends and recipes to ensure consistency between blends no matter where you order – from Detroit, to Denver to San Francisco.
- Choice & Personalization – When a customer orders a cup of coffee, they can personalize their own blend of beans to create their own perfect cup thanks to the Javabot. Each cup is brewed upon order.
