GRAND RAPIDS – MiCareerCompass, helps students and jobseekers explore career paths, find training and education, access support services, and land interviews for good-paying, in-demand jobs in West Michigan.

1. How MiCareerCompass Uses AI to Guide Jobseekers in West Michigan

Developed by TalentFirst with grant funding from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), MiCareerCompass is the first AI-powered marketplace of its kind. It was created in partnership with West Michigan Works!, FutureFit AI, and a broad coalition of local employers, community partners, and educational institutions. According to Alex Andrews of TalentFirst, this collaborative effort brings all the right players together to make career exploration easier for jobseekers.

To get started, users simply create a profile. They can upload their resume or manually enter their work experience. From there, the platform’s AI analyzes their skills and recommends local career paths that align with their strengths. It also identifies any missing qualifications, helping users understand what they need to improve. In addition, MiCareerCompass connects them with nearby education and training programs. These programs often include financial assistance, making it easier to gain the credentials required for in-demand jobs.

2. Career Pathways Available Through MiCareerCompass

Many of the jobs require short-term credentials or certificates. Fortunately, most of these programs take as little as eight weeks to complete. Currently, MiCareerCompass features 28 roles across three primary career pathways. First, the Clinical pathway includes healthcare and patient care roles. Next, the Administrative pathway covers office and support occupations. Finally, the Operations pathway focuses on logistics, manufacturing, and skilled trades.

As the initiative grows, these pathways will continue to expand with new employer partners and industries. In addition, participants who complete training earn priority interview status with major employers such as Amway, Corewell Health, Herbruck’s, Meijer, and Trinity Health. Since the platform uses real-time data, users can instantly see which jobs are in high demand. They can also compare salaries and understand the exact qualifications they need to get hired.

That transparency is important as people consider different career paths.

3. Support Services Offered Inside MiCareerCompass

Users can explore real-time job data through the platform. As a result, they can instantly see which jobs are in high demand across the region. They can also view how much each role pays and understand what qualifications are required to get hired.

After creating a profile, users can access several support options. They can request one-on-one career coaching, apply for housing or transportation assistance, and learn how to enroll in tuition or training reimbursement. This level of transparency helps people make informed decisions when choosing a career path.

Currently, MiCareerCompass partners with a wide range of employers and organizations.
