ANN ARBOR – The Industrial Hemp Association of Michigan (iHemp Michigan) will hold its board elections virtually on February 19 via Zoom. According to current President Blain Becktold, the board will mostly stay the same, although some new members might join.
Furthermore, Becktold explained that Michigan’s industrial hemp program will return to the US Department of Agriculture’s oversight. This change may encourage more Michigan farmers to grow hemp. Notably, the USDA license costs less and lasts for three years, whereas Michigan’s license only lasts one year.
In addition, the interview covered a nationwide effort to ban chemically enhanced hemp. These products mimic the psychoactive effects of Cannabis THC, which raises concerns that children might mistake them for candy. To address this, Michigan will move delta-8, delta-9, and delta-10 products to cannabis dispensaries, where buyers must be 21 or older.
What’s more, hemp meal has been approved for laying hens. Becktold, the owner of Downonthefarm.biz, is now selling hemp meal to farmers.
