SOUTHFIELD – October is cybersecurity awareness month and Michigan Cyber Patriot, a decade-old program that teaches K-12 students how to become cyber aware, needs support to continue its mission.

Founder Tamara Shoemaker needs financial support to keep the program operational and support summer camps. She also needs mentors to virtually teach students how to surf the Internet safely.

Tamara has also published a manual with her husband Dan that teaches teachers how to instruct K-12 students with the basics.

She’ll be at the Michigan Cyber Summit on Oct. 18 during a special program for students to sell her manual. She hopes patrons buy two, one to keep and one to share with their school.
