PLYMOUTH – Comcast announced Monday it has installed nearly 700 new Xfinity Wi-Fi outdoor hotspots in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak and St. Clair Shores – more Xfinity Wi-Fi outdoor hotspots will launch across other Michigan communities later this year.

This announcement complements Comcast’s 654,000 Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots statewide that Xfinity customers can access free of charge.

Comcast has increased Internet speeds in Michigan virtually every year for more than a decade, and in 2015, Comcast launched Gigabit Pro, a professional-grade residential Internet tier that delivers 2-Gbps upload and download speeds.

Earlier this year, Comcast announced it will introduce the world’s first DOCSIS 3.1-powered gigabit Internet service to residential and business customers in Detroit. The new network technology will, for the first time, make it possible for Xfinity and Comcast Business Internet customers to receive gigabit speeds over the communications lines that most customers already have in their homes and offices.

Most Xfinity Internet customers can access Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices and entering their Comcast email and password. The Xfinity Wi-Fi App, available for download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and outdoor hotspots, or customers can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.

Non-customers can also access the company’s new outdoor hotspots. Comcast offers two, 60-minute complimentary sessions per month. After that, non-customers can purchase hourly, daily, weekly or monthly access passes.
