PONTIAC – Oakland Schools will launch on June 13 an apprenticeship summer training program for juniors and seniors in the Construction Technology program that will give them the skills to enter the building trades when they graduate.
The program is a joint effort of Oakland Schools, Construction Craft Laborers LIUNA 1076 and the Michigan Laborers Training & Apprenticeship Institute. The program provides for a School to Registered Apprenticeship training opportunity.
Students participating in the STRA will work with qualified instructors knowledgeable in the subject matter and field practice for each discipline throughout the STRA program. STRA instructors and contractors will mentor students as necessary to align his/her skills to construction industry requirements.
Students have access to industry certification(s) while attending Michigan Laborers’ & Apprenticeship Institute and accumulate Department of Labor contact hours toward a Registered Apprenticeship.
Over the two year program the students will acquire training in the following:
General Construction 80 hour
Form Setting/Basic Blueprint Reading 40 hour
Mason Tending 40 hour
Asbestos Abatement Supervisor 40 hour
Scaffold Builder 40 hour
Rough Terrain Forklift/Aerial Lift/Skid Steer 40 hour
Concrete Technology 80 hour
Pipe Laying 40 hour
