DETROIT – Online job postings for lightweighting-related advanced manufacturing occupations in Michigan increased by five percent between the second and third quarters, from 28,902 to 30,325, says a new report from LIFT – Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow.
The quarterly reports, highlighting the employment trends, top jobs, and required skills in advanced manufacturing through Sept. 30 are completed with research and analysis from WIN (Workforce Intelligence Network) and cover each of the states in the LIFT region, including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.
“Increasing employer demand demonstrates an ongoing need for a steady supply of skilled workers across the region,” said Emily Stover DeRocco, education and workforce development director for LIFT. “As companies continue to seek new talent, our goal is to educate and train tomorrow’s workforce to the knowledge and skills in demand from this growing, dynamic sector.”
The top in-demand lightweighting-related occupations in Michigan in the third quarter were: Maintenance and Repair Workers (3,126 postings), Laborers and Freight, Stock and Material Movers (2,893 postings), Mechanical Engineers (2,029 postings), Electrical Engineers (1,829 postings) and Production Workers (1,641 postings).
“Advanced manufacturing jobs are a driving force for employment growth in Michigan,” said Joseph Petrosky, Dean of Engineering & Advanced Technology, Macomb Community College. “Collaboration among key industry partners and educators will be instrumental in closing the skills gap and fostering a qualified talent pipeline in the state.”
